Real-life 'Neighbours' where Ramsay Street residents get £27,000-a-year for existing
Neighbours will sadly end this summer after being on screen for 37 years. After almost 9,000 episodes, the programmes producers said they were "so sorry", but had no choice but to "rest the show" due to the "loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK".This is devastating news for a number of people, including the fans of the soap, as well as the cast and crew. There's also another group of people who will be extremely impacted by this news who you may not have thought about – the real life 'Neighbours' of Ramsay Street – where the show is filmed.Ramsay Street is actually a residential cul-de-sac called Pin Oak Court in Vermont South, Melbourne. The name Ramsay Street comes from one of the original characters, Max Ramsay, who appeared in the show's pilot episode on March 18 1985.Many of the scenes from the iconic soap are shot outside the houses on Ramsay Street, while interior shots are filmed in a studio located in nearby Nunawading. There are some perks to living on the same street where Neighbours is filmed. The real life residents of Ramsay Street are believed to be paid somewhere in the region of $33,000 (£18,000) to $50,000 (£27,000), according to The Herald and The Age.The sum depends on how much of the home is filmed.Real estate agency Barry Plant's Glen Waverley sales manager Carolyn Barton told The Sydney Herald: “It varies from house to house. Those that have filming of the front facade and the backyard get a higher return than those that just film the facade.”It comes as no surprise that house prices have soared in the area.
