Sigur Rós bassist Georg Hólm has admitted that he considered leaving Iceland after the band was accused of tax evasion.The Icelandic government accused the band of of evading 151m króna (£840,000) of tax between 2010 and 2014. Blaming an accounting error, they repaid the debt plus interest, but then faced a second prosecution for the same offence in 2020, which froze their assets. They have since been acquitted.At a similar time, their drummer Orri Páll Dýrason left the band following allegations of sexual misconduct by artist Megan Boyd, which he has consistently denied.“I really did feel like I can’t live in this sort of society,” Hólm told The Guardian.

Sigur Rós have surprise released a new album, almost ten years to the day since their last long player ‘Kveikur’ came out. The new record is called ‘Átta’ and is being released in partnership with BMG, just ahead of their performance with the London Contemporary Orchestra tonight as part of the Southbank Centre’s Meltdown festival.The album features both frontman Jónsi and bassist Georg Holm along with multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson, who returned to the band last year.Once back in the studio, Jónsi says, they found themselves “just wanting to have minimal drums and for the music to be really sparse, floaty and beautiful.

Sigur Rós recently kicked off their 2022 world tour and have debuted new material – watch below.The band announced details of their huge world tour in February, which would be their first in almost five years. Sigur Rós have added four more shows to their sprawling list of impending tour dates, slating gigs in New Zealand and Australia for this August – get tickets here.The four-date stint will be sandwiched between their 27 shows in North America – the first of which will go down in just under a month – and their 29-date run in the UK and Europe this September. Sigur Rós have announced details of a UK and European tour for later this year – check out the full list of dates below.Following the announcement of tour dates in the United States, Mexico and Canada last month, Sigur Rós have now confirmed a lengthy run in the UK and Europe.Kicking off in Portugal on 28 September, the run of shows will take place in Italy, Germany and France before arriving in the UK for four shows, including two nights at London’s Brixton Academy.
