Jaden Thompson In Season 2 of “Euphoria,” Sydney Sweeney‘s Cassie famously proclaims that she has “never, ever been happier.” It seems the same cannot be said for her new character Cecilia in the upcoming psychological horror film “Immaculate,” which is set to release in theaters March 22. Directed by Michael Mohan, Sweeney stars as a devoutly religious woman who moves into a haunted Italian convent in the countryside, which seems picturesque on the outside. The newly released trailer from Neon reveals that Cecilia will undoubtedly experience some “suffering” while dealing with a mysterious pregnancy.

Immaculate.Sweeney, who is known for her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, plays Cecilia, a woman of faith, who discovers frightening and sinister truths on her journey through the European countryside to an Italian convent.While the theatrical release date is still yet-to-be-determined, it has been confirmed that distributor Neon have acquired North American rights to the movie, which will be produced by Teddy Schwarzman of Black Bear, along with Sweeney herself, under her Fifty-Fifty Films name.The movie will see the reunion of several people also involved in creating The White Lotus, with Simona Tabasco starring, and David Bernad of Middle Child Pictures co-producing, who has worked previously with Sweeney on the HBO dark comedy-drama.Immaculate also stars Money Heist’s Alvaro Morte, The Hand Of God’s Dora Romano and Benedetta Porcaroli, known for the Netflix series, Baby.Principal photography for the psychological horror film took place in Rome, and concluded earlier this year.This will mark the second recent collaboration with Neon and Black Bear, following the release of Ferrari, starring Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, which will open in cinemas on Christmas Day.Sweeney’s recent romcom with Glen Powell, Anyone But You, will open in UK cinemas on December 26.

Sweeney, the star of “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” also produced the film with Black Bear and Middle Child Pictures. Neon is planning a theatrical release on a yet-to-be-determined date.

The film has begun its principal photography in Rome. The horror film depicts devoutly religious Cecilia (Sweeney) who receives an offer at an illustrious Italian convent. While seemingly picture-perfect, her new home in the Italian countryside holds some horrifying secrets. Morte’s credits include “Money Heist,” “Mirage,” “The Wheel of Time” and the upcoming series “Talkies.” Porcaroli has worked on projects such as “Perfect Strangers” “Baby,” “18 Presents” and the upcoming “Il Vangelo Secondo Maria.” Romano was featured in “The Hand of God,” “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” “Imma Tataranni – Deputy Prosecutor” and “Night Sun.” Colangeli’s credits include “Il Divo,” “Mindemic,” “Citizens of the World” and the upcoming “Castelrotto.” Sweeney’s acting work includes “Euphoria,” “The White Lotus” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
