Alex Ritman “Rye Lane” was one of the standout British indie films of 2023, a lively and delightfully-spun rom-com set in the south of London that helped add a fresh coat of paint to a genre that had been fading for several years. From first-time director Raine Allen Miller and led by rising stars Vivian Oparah and David Jonsson, both Londoners themselves, the film was hailed by critics at the Sundance Film Festival before being released in March. But despite the immense love that “Rye Lane” generated, resulting in a record 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards in December, few experts would have suggested it had the momentum to plant a flag in BAFTA’s main performance categories, especially given the competition.

Shetland icon lands major new role in BBC mystery drama after shock exit

He's well-known for his role as Jimmy Perez in Shetland but after his shock exit last year, Douglas Henshall has moved on to a new job.The actor appeared in Who is Erin Carter? on Netflix earlier this year and he'll soon be back on the BBC in an adaptation of Agatha Christie's Murder is Easy. Douglas is taking on the role of Major Horton and will star alongside David Jonsson as Fitzwilliam and Penelope Wilton as Miss Pinkerton.The series takes place in England, 1954, where on a train to London, Fitzwilliam meets Miss Pinkerton, who tells him that a killer is on the loose in the sleepy English village of Wychwood under Ashe.The villagers believe the deaths are mere accidents, but Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise – and when she's later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam feels he must find the killer before they can strike again.

New ‘Alien’ movie gets 2024 release date

Alien film franchise is scheduled to be released in 2024.As reported by Variety, the ninth film in the franchise will be released on August 16, 2024, as production on various Disney projects continues to be affected by the ongoing Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) strike.The next Alien film is produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Fede Álvarez, who is best known for directing Don’t Breathe and 2013’s Evil Dead. The film’s script is co-written by Álvarez and his longtime collaborator Rodo Sayagues.Confirmed cast members include Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim Uprising), Isabela Merced, David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow And Bone), Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.The untitled installment has been described as a standalone entry, which will be the seventh mainline entry in the franchise overall.
