Simon O'Brien got fans talking last month what he made a return to the small screen as Coronation Street's newest character. The actor made his debut in the ITV soap on May 27 as Frank Bardsley.

The Grant family was one of the first fictional clans to step onto Brookside when the soap first aired on Channel 4 in 1982.The much-loved drama quickly became an '80s and '90s classic as it told the stories of the residents of Brookside Close in Liverpool for 21 years across 2,915 episodes. Although the series had a long and successful run, Brookside finally came to an end in 2003 after being axed due to low ratings. But there were some TV gold moments along the way many of which included the Grant family, consisting of mum and dad Bobby and Sheila, daughter Karen and sons Barry and Damon.

Coronation Street introduced a new character into the ITV soap on Friday night and he soon got fans talking. Newcomer Frank Bardsley made his way into the Rovers Return and struck up a conversation with barman Sean Tully.

Coronation Street 's Sean Tully, played by Antony Cotton, is set for a new love interest on the hit ITV soap. In upcoming scenes, a man called Frank Bardsley, who is played by Simon O'Brien, enters the Rovers Return Inn where he soon has a flirty exchange with Sean. And when Frank leaves the Rovers, Jenny Connor encourages Sean to chase after him and ask him on a date.

A HUGE soap actor from a classic British favourite is set to join the cast of Coronation Street, show bosses have confirmed. Corrie bosses have revealed that former Brookside legend Simon O'Brien - who played Damon Grant in the C4 drama - has joined the cast of the ITV soap. Simon will play the role of Frank Bardsley, a mysterious new love interest for one Weatherfield resident.
