More than 3.5million people on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) may have to wait months to find out whether changes will be made to the disability benefit following the end of the consultation period last month.

Proposals made by the then-Conservative government in the ‘Modernising support for independent living: the health and disability green paper ’ aimed to cut £12billion from the welfare bill each year until 2030.

Changes include swapping cash PIP payments of up to £737.20 every four-week payment period for a range of other support, including vouchers, one-off grants, a receipt-based scheme or choosing support aids from a catalogue.

However, a recent response from Baroness Sherlock in the House of Lords to a written question on plans to change the PIP assessment suggests that no official Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) statement on the outcome of the consultation is likely to be made until after the Parliamentary summer recess ends on September 2, 2024.
