Social media users have been left horrified after discovering the seemingly innocent tale of Little Bo-Beep actually has a far more sinister meaning behind it.

The well known nursery rhyme goes: "Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep, / And can’t tell where to find them." However, like many other popular childhood poems the true explanation behind it is much darker than most people realise despite it staring them straight in the face, the Mirror reports.

One would only have to glance over these lyrics to realise this 'spooky' song is one that most parents should probably not sing around their children.While many of us are familiar with the famous first verse of the rhyme, it appears not everyone has read the disturbing lyrics in full.

The full nursery rhyme reads: Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep, And can't tell where to find them; Leave them alone, and they'll come home, Bringing their tails behind them.
