Pensioner dies after horror fire rips through Scots home

A pensioner has died after a horror fire ripped through a home in Lanarkshire. Emergency services raced to the property on Pleamuir Place in Cumbernauld after the alarm was raised at around 9am on Saturday.Fire crews tackled the blaze but a 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they sent four fire engines to the incident and left at around 3.45pm on Saturday.A police investigation has now been launched to establish the cause of the fire.

Officers believe there are no suspicious circumstances relating to the incident.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11am on Saturday, February 10, 2024, we were called to a report of a fire at a premises in the Pleamuir Place area of Cumbernauld.

Emergency services attended and a 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.“The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
