A pensioner died after driving his mobility scooter off of a beach promenade. Richard Jones, 78, misjudged the edge of the promenade and fell to his death, reports North Wales Live.
An inquest held at Ruthin County Hall heard that the tragic incident took place last year in Wales. The 78-year-old had suffered a bleed on the brain in the 1970s which impacted his mobility.
Therefore purchasing a mobility scooter allowed Mr Jones to continue his beloved walks with his wife along the prom near their home in Prestatyn.
However, the inquest heard that Mr Jones "fell over a lot" and sometimes struggled to control his scooter. On August 7 2022, Mr Jones is said to have "misjudged" the Prestatyn promenade edge while on his mobility scooter and fell around eight feet down some steps.
