PEAKY Blinders fans were in tears as the BBC gangster drama paid tribute to its late star, Helen McCrory. Helen 52, starred as Tommy Shelby’s aunt, Polly Gray, but sadly passed away after a battle with cancer in April 2021.
The Hollywood actress, famed for her work both on stage and screen, passed away peacefully at her home. Peaky Blinders returned for its sixth and final season on the BBC on Sunday night with many fans wondering how it would explain Polly's absence.
They described the tribute as "perfect" and saw her funeral carried out with her body burned on a pyre while housed in a Romani wagon surrounded by her nephews and son.
The scene then cut to a haunting, but beautiful painted portrait of Polly at her home before cutting back Tommy (Cillian Murphy) whose usually steely face was punctured by tears welling up in his eyes.
