By nightfall, Paul was dead, killed in an inferno of mangled wreckage when the car ploughed into a lamppost at high speeds. Onlookers saw the car tearing down the highway at between 70 and 100mph before Roger lost control for unknown reasons, sending the vehicle spinning in the middle of the road.
