Actor Paul Sorvino, has sadly died at the age of 83, his wife confirmed this evening.The talented performer, best known for starring in the mobster flick Goodfellas, is thought to have died with his wife Dee Dee by his side on Monday morning.
Paying tribute to her husband in an emotional statement, his devastated wife wrote: “Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage.” Boasting a career that spanned almost five decades, the well-known actor starred in just shy of 50 films during his momentous career including Baz Luhrmann's 1996 hit Romeo + Juliet and 1995’s political thriller, Nixon.
Yet his most recognisable role, was his turn as mobster Paul Cicero in Martin Scorcese’s 1990 masterpiece Goodfellas. His last TV appearance was in another mafia inspired show, Godfather of Harlem in which he played Frank Costello.
Born in Brooklyn in 1939, Paul was encouraged by his mother at a young age to pursue his love for music and the arts. Following his passion, he attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York where he fell in love with theatre specifically, before kickstarting his career by walking the boards in Broadway musical Bajour back in 1964.
