A patient was taken to hospital after a car crashed into a column outside a Sainsbury's store in Trafford. It is unclear at this stage how badly injured the person was following the smash at the supermarket in Sale.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said they were unsure whether the patient was the driver or a passenger in the car.

A second person suffered a leg injury in the crash but did not need to go to hospital. No pedestrians were involved in the crash, the spokeswoman confirmed.

Police were called at around 10.30am today (Tuesday) to the store on Curzon Road. Photos from the scene showed an area had been taped off around a damaged column.
