Passengers warned of delays after UK airports initiate 'air traffic restrictions' amid severe fog

Some of the country's busiest airports are experiencing disruption due to the foggy weather that has blanketed much of the UK in recent days.

As airports hustle to return to full capacity post-Christmas, fog-related interruptions have travellers checking their flight statuses.

A spokesperson from Nats, the provider of the UK's main air traffic control unit, said on Friday (December 27): "Due to widespread fog, temporary air traffic restrictions are in place at several airports across the UK today.

Restrictions of this sort are only ever applied to maintain safety. We continue to monitor the situation and have a Met Office expert embedded within our operation to ensure we have the latest available information.
