Parent finds girl, 10, dead at home with throat slashed as forensics cordon off house

A child has been found dead at home with her throat slashed. The 10-year-old girl was found in the property by her parent at Emerald Lakes at Carrara, on the Gold Coast in Australia at 6pm local time on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended but tragically the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they are treating the death as suspicious.

The Mirror reports there to be a large cordon in place, with forensics officers seen entering and leaving a gazebo set up next to the home.One key part of the initial investigation will involve finding out how long her body was in the home before emergency services were called.

Speaking to local newspaper The Courier Mail, one shocked neighbour said: "It’s normally very quiet around here. I can’t believe it."A Queensland Police spokesman told national media: "Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a girl in Carrara this evening.
