Steve McManaman has quashed criticism surrounding Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola's tactics claiming "you can't overthink a genius." The Blues tactician has been on the receiving end of questioning surrounding his tactical approaches since he took charge at the Etihad Stadium.
For their semi-final first-leg against Real Madrid, Gabriel Jesus was handed successive starts as John Stones started at right-back in the absence of Kyle Walker and the suspended Joao Cancelo.
His selection paid dividends as Jesus scored his fifth goal in his last two outings after spinning David Alaba and firing beyond Thibaut Courtois.
Stones was replaced at half-time by Fernandinho who was in the thick of the action assisting Phil Foden's header before Vinicius Jr spun him and halved the deficit again.
