Over one in five Perth and Kinross children living in poverty, according to new research findings

Perth and Kinross are now living in poverty, according to new research. The data shows the number of young people in the region living below the breadline went up by 2.6 per cent over the course of five years to 22.6 per cent.In the period measured over 2014/15 the total stood at 4869 and by the end of 2019/20 it had increased to 5515.The research, conducted by Loughborough University on behalf of the End Child Poverty coalition, estimates the number of children living below 60 per cent median income after housing costs, by Scottish local authority.The study lays bare the scale of the challenge facing local governments with 24 per cent of kids in Scotland in poverty.The Scottish Government has committed to a target of fewer than 18 per cent.
