'Over-50s' food bank set-up to feed those left struggling and hungry during coronavirus pandemic

Bolton councillor says number of those struggling for money and food continued to climb. In a bid to find and help the people out of the reach of mainstream services, he decided to create a food bank focusing on helping the over-50 age group.The new food bank began in the Horwich and Blackrod Over 50s Lads Club.

It was established by members of the Horwich and Blackrod Town Council five years ago to encourage older men to come together for social events in the wake of the founder's own mental health struggles.

Peter told Manchester Evening News : "There wasn't a lot going for older men in the community at the time and many men aren't as good as being outgoing as others, that's why we set up the Over 50s Lads Club.
