Outlander's Sam Heughan claims he ate contraband haggis during a trip to the United States for a BAFTA Burns night. Haggis has been banned from the US for more than twenty years because of health fears over its ingredients.

The States has banned all food made with lungs - which means the Scottish delicacy is firmly off the table.Sam however managed to get an illicit taste of haggis in Los Angeles two years ago.At the risk of getting someone into trouble, he told the Scotsman: "We had a sort of soft launch of our whisky in Los Angeles, at the BAFTA burns night, where I had to toast the haggis."The haggis had to be smuggled into America, because haggis is is illegal there.

I think it was Macsween haggis as well, which was tremendous. It's one of the best."The Outlander star also shared a memory of different haggis...that didn't go down so well.He said: "I was in Australia doing some press on an Australian morning show and they presented it in the morning cooked.

It smelled so bad like someone had really bad indigestion."I don't know what happened. I think it was sitting in the fridge for a few days and it had gone off.
