The nominees for the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. Eight of the 14 artists have been nominated for the first time: Outkast, Phish, Billy Idol, the Black Crowes, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Maná, and Chubby Checker.
The remaining musicians, including Mariah Carey and Oasis, were nominated in a previous year but not selected by the Hall's voters.
To be eligible for induction in the Hall, 25 years must have passed since the artist's first release. Chubby Checker, best known for his version of the classic rock song "The Twist," has been eligible since the Hall of Fame's creation in 1985 — 2025 marks his first nomination, though "The Twist" was inducted in the Hall's singles category in 2018.
The selection of the Mexican band Maná is the first time a band that sings entirely or primarily in Spanish has been nominated, as Variety points out.
