A concerned Perthshire farmer is watching anxiously to see if her pregnant sheep will lose their lambs after they were chased by an out of control dog.Sheep farmer Grace Reid from Auchterarder has been left horrified after the owner of the dog – which got into her field and raced after a flock of 93 pregnant ewes, biting one on the neck – fled the scene before he could be confronted. The incident happened in a field beside the popular Johnny Mathie’s Path circuit.

A neighbour filmed a brown dog yelping as it ran through the flock while the stressed, heavily pregnant ewes scattered.According to the witness the dog owner – a man who was riding past on a bike as his dog ran free – lifted his pet out of the field and they both left the scene.Sheep worrying is a criminal offence.Grace said: “Ewes are very vulnerable to stress and quite often can die from shock after this kind of incident.

It is simply unacceptable to let your dog chase after in-lamb ewes and run off from your responsibilities.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - sign up to our daily newsletter here.
