The Academy are reportedly holding "emergency talks" to discuss whether Will Smith should be stripped of his Best Actor gong following his behaviour during the ceremony on Sunday evening. The 53 year old actor left fellow attendees and the world shocked as he walked up on stage and punched host Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

And while Diddy has insisted the pair are on good terms and the LAPD confirmed that Chris would not be pressing charges, it has been claimed that Oscar bosses are split over whether to punish Will by taking away the Oscar he won for his role in King Richard. "Once the ceremony was over, they called in key members to hold an emergency meeting about what action they should take," it was reported.

A source added to The Sun: "There have been calls to have Will stripped of his Best Actor gong. "They cannot be seen to be condoning violence in any way, and there are some people in the Academy who believe they should remove the award from him to make a point.

Others, however, believe he should be allowed to hold on to it." Higher-ups at the Oscars are said to be especially split over the decision after they drew up a new code of conduct in the wake of the #MeToo movement and the crimes committed by Harvey Weinstein.
