Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan ‘worried’ comeback is ‘one-time thing’

During his acceptance speech at the Oscars, he was overcome with emotion and sobbed onstage. He described his time in a refugee camp when he went to Hong Kong from Vietnam with his father and five of Quan’s siblings, according to The Guardian.

His mom and three other siblings, meanwhile, went to Malaysia, which was their second time trying to leave the country — this time successful — and they all emigrated to the United States one year later, in 1979. “They say stories like this only happen in the movies,” Quan said during his acceptance speech. “I cannot believe it is happening to me.
