Oprah Winfrey proved that she knows how to throw a one-of-a-kind birthday celebration. The star recently honored her best friend, Ava DuVernay, as she turned the big 50 on August 24.

The renowned talk show host, 68, surprised her close pal with a bouquet of fresh-picked flowers along with whisking her away for a three-day celebration in Maui.

The two pals have been friends for around 10 years, and have worked on an assortment of projects together throughout the decade, such as Disney's A Wrinkle In Time.
