'One of the best in music': Crazy P's Danielle Moore recognised as 'veritable force' in tributes

22 years ago, electronic outfit Crazy P released their second album The Wicked is Music. Described by fans as one of the 'best funk albums of the 00's', the album became just as known for its seven-minute opening opus There's A Better Place, sampling Gene Wilder's Pure Imagination, as it was for outlining what would be a career trajectory for the band.

Originally a duo formed out of 90s student halls in Nottingham University by Chris Todd and Jim Baron, the band were joined by vocalist Danielle Moore, bassist Tim Davies and percussionist Mav Kendricks for their 2002 follow-up to debut 1998 record A Nice Hot Bath With...

Moore, who had grown up in and around north Manchester as a teenager and frequented the likes of the Haçienda on weekday nights at the age of 18, where she would later claim were home to her first 'really seminal dancefloor moments’, added a new touch to the band, which were originally cheekily named Crazy Penis. Released on Manchester-based record label Paper Recordings, the record's cover also featured the band's original name in block writing lettering in case the message had been missed.
