One million Brits could be jabbed a day in a bid to beat the Indian variant which threatens the end of Covid-19 restrictions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had said that the UK was working towards June 21 as the day when all social distancing rules would come to an end.

He maintained that he would always be driven by 'data not dates' when it came to making the decision. But as more cases of the Indian variant begin to emerge in hotspots throughout Britain, the Government now want to step up the vaccine programme.

Ministers have told MPs they “safely” expect to increase daily doses from 500,000 to 800,000 - and this will be rolled out within the next two weeks, according to the Sunday Telegraph.
