Matt Minton mminton@variety.com Following last week’s 20-second teaser that gave a brief look at Paul Thomas Anderson‘s highly anticipated new project, “One Battle After Another” now has an official trailer.
This marks the first time that Leonardo DiCaprio has starred in an Anderson film. Alongside DiCaprio, the cast includes Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle and Chase Infiniti.
Plot details and the film’s exact title remained unknown until the first teaser dropped, with “One Battle After Another” expected to be somewhat inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s classic 1990 novel “Vineland.” The trailer reveals that DiCaprio plays Bob Ferguson, a wacky, disheveled revolutionary who’s trying to save his daughter.
It begins with Bob, in a beanie and bathrobe, using a payphone to request help from some unknown rebel allies but forgetting which codewords to use.
