Love them or hate them, air fryers have dominated kitchen shelves as this year's must have appliance and it seems that owners are constantly discovering new ways to use them. The energy saving device can cook a ream of tasty dishes and it turns out that it can also be used to boil an egg - yes, you read that right.

According to the lifestyle experts at Cath Kidston, you can achieve the perfect runny or hard boiled egg without having to wait for a pot of water to heat. With this method, you can cook multiple eggs in one go, so "putting all your eggs in one basket" will actually pay off.

All you have to do is place the eggs in the fryer basket - with no water - and cook them at 150C for your desired yolk finish. They explained: "Forget about grabbing pots and pans and waiting an age for the water to boil, that’s old school.

Instead, to make the perfect boiled eggs, all you need to do is pop them in the air fryer at 150°C and go about your day while they cook."As a guideline, cook them for eight minutes to achieve soft boiled eggs (with a lovely runny yolk to dip your soldiers into), 10 minutes for medium boiled eggs (enjoy a bright orange, sticky yolk that’ll look great as an Instagram post), or 12 minutes for hard boiled eggs."Not only are air fryers simple to use and keep clean, they also use significantly less power than other classic appliances.A previous comparison of the cost to run an air fryer against a typical oven found the former to cost just 30p an hour to run, while the latter takes £1.02 for the same time.Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - sign up to our daily newsletter here.
