The country's top sports stars lined the red carpet in Salford tonight (December 19) as they arrived for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
The 70th edition of the annual awards show is taking place at MediaCityUK with the winner to be crowned by 9pm. Among the contenders for the main prize are Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps, cricketer Stuart Broad and athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, jockey Frankie Dettori and golfer Rory McIlroy are also among the finalists. Other awards to be handed out at the ceremony include the World Sport Star, Team and Young Sports Personality of the Year.
Liverpool and Scotland legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has already been announced as the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
