Jones has not played a competitive game for United since January 2020, when they beat Preston North End 6-0 in the FA Cup, a game in which the defender himself got on the scoresheet.
The decision to have surgery on a persistent knee injury during lockdown has kept the 29-year-old from returning to the pitch for almost two years, and in recent weeks Jones has spoken up about the physical and mental challenges of the past few seasons.
