Thousands of older women are owed large sums of money by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) due to a historic error, with back payments worth an average £11,905 being sent out to pensioners after the mistake was uncovered and addressed.
After nearly three years of combing through their records, over 100,000 women have already been identified as missing out due to years of underpayment.
The DWP has recently released new updates on the progress of their Legal Entitlements and Administrative Practice (LEAP) and the Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) corrections exercises, which are finding out how many women have missed out on their State Pension payments.
As the department has now finished the LEAP exercises for married women and people in a civil partnership, as well as those over 80, it has been confirmed that "progress remains on track for the 'widowed' cases to be completed by the end of 2024".
