Only Pope John Paul II can boast bringing in bigger crowds to Heaton Park. But next summer, Oasis will give the former head of the Catholic Church a run for his money.
The Britpop band are set to spend five nights of their long-awaited reunion tour at Manchester's biggest park where hundreds of thousands of fans will gather over a week.
It's not the first time the band has brought in big crowds to Europe's largest municipal park. In fact, their three sold-out shows at Heaton Park in 2009 would be among their last before breaking up following a fight between Liam and Noel Gallagher in France. But the first of these homecoming gigs were fraught with technical difficulties resulting in 'Bank of Burnage' cheques being sent to fans as refunds.
