Number of coronavirus cases in the UK could continue to rise for months, says Health Secretary

The Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock has said the peak for UK coronavirus cases is unlikely to be reached in the next fortnight with the number of cases likely to increase for months.

During questioning in the commons Mr Hancock said that the number of cases is expected to rise significantly in the coming weeks, but this may not reach its peak for many months.

Mr Hancock said he expects the Covid-19 outbreak to last "for less than a year". In response to a question from former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Mr Hancock said: "The deputy chief medical officer said that, in the next couple of weeks, we may see the numbers starting to rise fast to their peak.
