Ayrshire is on the rise. Figures obtained by Ayrshire Live shows that more women than ever are choosing to bring their bundle of joy into the world in their own home.With restrictions in place at hospitals across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic, the health crisis could be a factored in by many when deciding on a birthing plan.As it stands, a birthing partner can only attend Ayrshire Maternity Unit once a woman has established labour and visiting restrictions still remain in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19.NHS Ayrshire & Arran home birthing was scrapped during the first three weeks of the pandemic last year but otherwise has operated throughout the crisis.Introduced in May 2019, 12 women gave birth in the first eight.
