Ayrshire nurse has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Professor Fiona McQueen, from Ayr, is among a raft of figures in the medical profession to be awarded for her services to the NHS in Scotland.
Fiona’s nursing career began in 1982. She was promoted to be an executive director of nursing for Lanarkshire in 1993 and six years later she moved to lead nursing at NHS Ayrshire and Arran.In November 2014 she became Scotland’s interim chief nursing officer after leading Ayrshire and Arran for 15 years.A year later Fiona was appointed Scotland’s Chief Nursing Officer, a post she held for seven years.Fiona is an honorary professor at the University of West of Scotland and was chair of the Scottish Executive Nurse Directors.
