Bad Bunny is taking over the world with his new album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. One of the songs, “NUEVAYoL,” is rapidly gaining attention online as a love letter to New York City and Latin culture.

With the track, Benito samples “Un Verano en Nueva York” by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and Andy Montañez, a Puerto Rican salsa hit from the ’70s.

There are multiple cultural lyrical references to everyone from Big Pun to Juan Soto to Frida Kahlo to Willie Colón, a Puerto Rican salsa singer born in 1950, and his debut album titled EL MALO.

He also references a bar called Caribbean Social Club, popularly known as Tonita’s because owner María Antonia Cay, located in Brooklyn, New York.
