'Nothing would change my mind' Hundreds of rebels defy Nicola Sturgeon warning and head over border to watch Old Firm clash

Nicola Sturgeon’s plea not to travel to English pubs and watch the first Old Firm match of the season. Hundreds of supporters went over the Border to drink pints as Celtic and Rangers slugged it out inside an empty Parkhead stadium.

Large crowds headed to bars in Carlisle despite the First Minister and both club managers begging them to stay at home. Many travelled south the night before while others arrived by train before the 12.30pm kick-off.

Cumbria Police officers and dog handlers were visible on the streets to make sure there was little chance of disruption associated with the Glasgow derby happening in their area.
