Dan Gore’s red card for a strong tackle in his side's friendly against Wrexham was unwarranted, according to a former Manchester United academy graduate.
The midfielder was chosen to captain a youth-packed side against the League Two outfit but was given his marching orders shortly after half-time when the referee adjudged him to have led with his studs into a challenge.
The player was aghast at the decision and replays showed that it may have been harsh. The 10 men of United limped to a 3-1 defeat as inexperience came to the fore.
The dismissal had a telling impact on the sway of play but pundits on MUTV questioned whether a red card should have been shown in the first place.
