The largest rail company in the North of England has warned that it will take up to three years before its services are up to scratch.

Northern, which has been heavily criticised for high levels of train cancellations - particularly on Sundays - in recent months, has admitted that services are still 'not good enough'.

The rail operator said things will improve if union members back a new deal. But bosses have warned that, even with this agreement in place, Northern won't meet its 'ambitious' targets until 2027.

It comes as the operator sets out its plan to cut cancellations to 2 per cent with 90 per cent of services arriving no more than three minutes late.
