He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Revellers hit the town in the north of England for one last night out before the Government introduces severe new lockdown restrictions that could see pubs closed for months.

Nightlife spots in Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle attracted scores of partygoers before the 10pm curfew meant crowds spilled onto the streets on Sunday night.

Downing Street's new three tier lockdown system could see much of the North - particularly hard hit by the pandemic - shackled with more severe lockdown rules.

Boris Johnson will lay out the plans in Parliament on Monday before a national TV address later in the day, as Britain continues to see a major surge in cases - and the stricter measures could be in place for up to six months.
