Normal People debuted on BBC One on Monday night. The drama series follows Marianne (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal) as they grow up in and fall in love in their fictional hometown of Carricklea in Ireland.
The story has been adapted for screen from the 2018 novel of the same name by Irish author Sally Rooney and the talented writer has shared on how she took on the challenge of turning the book into a screenplay and the challenges she faced.
Sally collaborated with writer Alice Birch on the scripts for episodes one to six then Alice penned the following five and the series finale was written by Mark O’Rowe.
