Downing Street today resisted calls for Boris Johnson to take the knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter protests sweeping the UK.
Activists across the country dropped to one knee at 6pm tonight to take a stand against the killing of George Floyd by US police.
Labour leader Keir Starmer and deputy leader Angela Rayner also adopted the position, as has Canada's leader Justin Trudeau.
But Boris Johnson's Press Secretary did not confirm the Prime Minister would follow suit. Asked if he would take a knee, the PM's Press Secretary said: "All I would say is the PM’s focus is on improving the lives and opportunities of BAME people as part of our levelling up agenda." Asked if that meant he wasn't going to kneel, the Press Secretary added:
