Promises from Google to do something about scam advertisers seem to be just so much hot air. Take Lead Generation Limited, a company run from a London mailbox whose director is a 35-year-old Bulgarian, Ilian Stoimenov.
It’s not hard to discover his past – all Google has to do is put his name into its own search engine to find my stories detailing see how his websites target savers looking for ISAs or bonds.
Last month, the Financial Conduct Authority warned about no fewer than 25 web domains run by Lead Generation, saying: “This firm is not authorised by us and is targeting people in the UK.” Lead Generation's tactic when the websites get bad publicity is to open up new ones and then pay Google to put them at the top of their search
