Former Rangers man Nnamdi Ofoborh's tumultuous spell off away from football has finally came to an end - with the midfielder making his first competitive appearance in over three years. After rising through the ranks at Bournemouth and helping Wycombe Wanderers seal promotion to the English Championship, ex-Nigeria youth international Ofoborh was brought to Ibrox by Steven Gerrard on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
However, club doctors soon identified a problem with the player's heart shortly after his arrival, and as a result the 24-year-old failed to make a single matchday squad with the Light Blues before being released last summer. But just hours after signing a deal with EFL League Two side Swindon, Ofoborh made his long-awaited return to the game as a late substitute in 2-1 home win against Notts County on Saturday afternoon.
The victory has moved former Dundee United and Greenock Morton defender Gavin Gunning's side 10 points clear of the drop zone in England's fourth tier and ended their wait of three games without a win.Speaking to Swindon Town's club website prior to today's game, the midfielder said he is looking forward to resuming his career after a challenging three year spell.
He said: "I am blessed and am happy to be here. "It's been a long time coming and I am looking forward to getting started. I am just thankful to god that I have got this opportunity and hopeful I can make it count."
