Bayer Leverkusen chief executive Fernando Carro has conceded the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions will have to sell one player this summer as Celtic await a payday for Jeremie Frimpong. The full-back has been a key figure in helping Xabi Alonso's side claim an historic first German title and reports in Germany claim that Manchester United have held concrete talks with the Netherlands international already with a view to triggering his release clause.

That figure is said to stand at £34m - with a significant chunk of that set to arrive in the Parkhead coffers should a switch to Old Trafford be rubber stamped.Amid speculation over the future of Frimpong - who has scored eight goals and registering seven assists so far this term - and a move to the English Premier League, Carro has admitted the club may be forced to sell to fund a title defence.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, he said: "Every year we need to sell one big player to find budget for new signings."So, probably we will sell one player.

We're planning to sign two or three players with that amount of money."While the sale could fund Leverkusen's summer spending, it could also make a big difference to Brendan Rodgers' recruitment in the summer.
