With the release of Nika McGuigan’s final film, Wildfire, for which she received a posthumous IFTA award, Irish boxer Barry McGuigan and his wife Sandra have paid tribute to their late daughter who passed away in 2019 after a short battle with cancer.
Speaking to the Independent, Barry and Sandra described their joy at seeing Nika, who died aged 33, so invested in the film project after years in which roles had not come easy.
Directed by Cathy Brady, who Nika had previously worked alongside on the RTÉ hit series Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope, the feature film saw the actress star opposite Nora-Jane Noone as two sisters whose grief over the death of their mother years previously plays out in different ways.
