Nicole Kidman was forced to leave Venice just hours after arriving after learning of the death of her "beautiful, brave mum".The 57-year-old actress announced the news via a note read out to the Venice Film Festival audience on Saturday night (September 7).
She had been due to collect the best actress award at the event, but revealed she was preparing flying home to be with her family instead.The Australian icon earned the accolade for her role as a CEO entangled in an affair with a younger intern, portrayed by Harris Dickinson, in Halina Reijn's film Babygirl.
In a heartfelt note delivered by Halina to the festival attendees on Saturday evening, Nicole said her "heart is broken". The message said: "Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed.
I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. "I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heart-breaking, and my heart is broken.
