Nicola Sturgeon is set to issue an update on the state of the coronavirus pandemic to the Scottish Parliament later today. The First Minister will address MSPs this afternoon on the latest covid restrictions and whether any rules will be relaxed in the coming weeks.

Last week self-isolation days were slashed from 10 to seven for people who test positive if they have no fever and record two negative lateral flow tests. Most close contacts of positive covid cases, including people in the same household, are no longer required to self-isolate and are instead able to take daily LFTs.

However, close contacts over 18 years and four months who are not fully vaccinated are still being asked to self-isolate for ten days and take a PCR test.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would "act according to the science" around cutting the self-isolation period to five days.Experts are examining whether the period could be cut from seven to five days for cases, something which would help ease staffing crises across the economy and public services.
