Nicky Butt hits back at Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal Manchester United criticism

Nicky Butt has moved to dispel the notion that former managers Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho mistreated Manchester United's famous academy during their stints at the club.

Van Gaal took over at United following David Moyes' disastrous time in charge and gave a debut to Marcus Rashford, who has since gone on to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

The Dutchman was the first to call up defender Axel Tuanzebe into the senior side and also gave debuts to the likes of Andreas Periera, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and a host of other promising talents.

Mourinho succeeded Van Gaal and he also made use of the academy, handing Scott McTominay his debut and making him a key player in his side.
