Nick Montgomery stills believes he has the backing of the Hibs board to take the club forward and is confident that his team are "really close" to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Premiership.Since succeeding Lee Johnson back in September, the 42-year-old has struggled to put together a consistent run of results, and a last-gasp equaliser conceded against Motherwell in the final game before the league split denied the Hibees a place in the top six.

That disappointment has led to many fans of the Leith club calling for a change in management, while Montgomery's own board of directors even described the failure to finish in the top half of the table as "totally unacceptable."The former Central Coast Mariners boss was able to lift some of the pressure surrounding his own position by leading Hibs to a 3-1 away win against St Johnstone last Saturday.

And in an interview with the Edinburgh Evening News, Montgomery is adamant that he will be given time to try and achieve the Easter Road side's long-term objectives. He said: “The reason I came to the club is because they believed I was the man to bring stability, for starters.

I’m in the process of building a sustainable team moving forward.“There is a lot to look forward to at this club. But you have to be patient.
